The new head coach of the Lingerie Football League’s Orlando Fantasy is Doug Miller. Honestly, I don’t know who he is. I know he’s not the minor-league soccer player who is the only “Doug Miller” on Wikipedia.

He runs a ladies’ soccer team in Rochester. Totally different animal. Though judging by the success of the UCF women’s soccer team, doable here.

(You may have caught a message in my last Fantasy report, but according to league sources, Kenny McEntire was fired by the league for “inappropriate conduct”. The Sentinel only says “off-the-field issues”. I have a feeling it’s why McEntire told me, “My wife didn’t like the idea”, when I asked him about it.)

The league has announced its first non-PPV show. LFL Friday Night Football will premiere at 11pm ET on Friday night, September 3, as a half-hour program providing highlights of the previous week’s game. The show will be produced by MTV, and aired on MTV2 in HD.

On that same night, the Orlando Fantasy players will be engaged in a PR bar crawl in Downtown Orlando. They will begin at Wall Street Pub at 6pm, and work their way to Ember, where they will arrive at 9pm. It’ll be a great opportunity to meet the women of the gridiron in preparation of their first game, Friday, September 24.

Tickets are still on-sale through Ticketmaster, with two-game value packs also available. The 2-game value pack is available for $30 or $80 ($42 or $94 w/fees). The $80 seats are only the front three rows of club seating. You can get centerline seats for $30 for both, or $19 each.

Fantasy open tryout Saturday – women's arena football

datePosted on 21:35, July 11th, 2010 by Jeff Leadbeater

The Orlando Fantasy women’s arena football team is kicking off its 2010 training camp with an open tryout.

Open tryouts will occur this Saturday, July 17, from 10am until 2pm. They will be located at Barnett Park, just west of the Central Florida Fairgrounds on SR 50, West Colonial Drive. The tryouts will be open to the public.

Ladies, if you are interested in trying out, fill out and bring this information form. Arrive prepared to work out, wearing a sport bra, shorts and cleats. (The instructions say shoes, or cleats if working out on grass. Barnett Park is grass.) According to the website, “Ladies will be tested through a series of football drills that will include passing, catching, running, speed, hand/eye coordination, quickness, aggression and instinct.”

So you know what you’re getting yourself into: this is the Lingerie Football League. The gameday uniform is sport bras, panties and garters, cleats, shoulder pads and hockey-style helmets with plastic visors. The Orlando Fantasy website features the LFL video player, which shows the gametime environment. It is highly similar to arena football.

The Orlando Fantasy women’s indoor football team has yet to play a game, and they are already looking for their third head coach.

A link on the Fantasy website today stated that Kenny McEntire had been fired by the LFL as head coach of the Fantasy, but the link was broken, providing no further information. That was 13 hours ago. The link is still on the LFL main website, with no direction where it should go.

I caught up with McEntyre following the Predators’ 45-34 victory over the Alabama Vipers. According to him, his departure was initiated by him; he was not fired. He left for personal reasons, and intimated that he was not quite ready to be on the sidelines yet. He left on good terms, and continues to advise the team.

Their first head coach, former Preds quarterback Ben Bennett, quit because he didn’t like the season format of only playing one game in the entire league each week.

Although the story is considerably different now, still, going through coaches like toilet paper before the first season is not a good way to make a first impression.

Fantasy find home arena, lose head coach

datePosted on 07:53, June 8th, 2010 by Jeff Leadbeater

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orlando Fantasy has booked its two home games at UCF Arena. This will mark the first time indoor football will be played at the venue.

Looking at the seating chart, it looks like some of the lower bowl seating will be retracted, in the Endstage 360 configuration with only lower bowl and club seats used. This would give them a capacity of 5,447 for the event. Individual game ticket prices will range from $40-$85. A two-game package is available with prices ranging $60-$150.

Tickets are on sale now. A reminder that the two home games are September 24 against the Tampa Breeze, and October 29 against Miami Caliente. Both games start at 9pm.

I would imagine if any success shows, they would move to the Amway Center for 2011. But the early home game made it impossible to get into the new arena when it was ready.

In other news, Ben Bennett has resigned as head coach of the Orlando Fantasy. Reportedly, he had a difference of opinion with LFL owner Mitchell Mortaza, and didn’t like the scant number of games in the season.

Kenny McEntire will take over as head coach. This shouldn’t affect his playing time with the Predators this season.

Personally, I think if the LFL wants any shot at looking legitimate, they do need to eventually play more than one game league-wide per week.

Official: Lingerie Football League coming to Orlando

datePosted on 10:47, May 13th, 2010 by Jeff Leadbeater

As I reported at the beginning of the year, the Lingerie Football League, a novelty indoor football league played by scantily-clad but well-padded (literally, I mean) women, is expanding to Orlando for their 2010-11 season.

Recently they announced the name of the Orlando franchise: the Orlando Fantasy.

The head coach is a very familiar name for Predators fans: quarterback Ben Bennett. He, along with WR Barry Wagner, engineered the Miracle Minute in 1992, and led the Preds to three ArenaBowl appearances. He has since been a big coach in af2, most recently of the Austin Wranglers. He won the ArenaCup coaching the Florida Firecats in 2004.

The team has already had its spring mini-camps, and has full social networking with Facebook, Myspace and Twitter.

Games will be very rare, as the league only plays one game per week throughout the season. The Fantasy will play four Eastern Conference games, 2 at home and 2 away. The home games for the Fantasy will be on September 24 against Tampa Breeze, and October 29 against Miami Caliente. Their away games will be November 5 at Baltimore Charm, and December 10 at Philadelphia Passion. All game times are 9pm ET.

Tickets go on sale on June 1. The schedule says Amway Center will be the venue, but the September date would kind’ve chaffe with the construction schedule. (The first Magic home preseason game is October 10.) I will keep you informed as more data becomes available.
