Actor and Orlando native James Gammon, manager in Major League, dies, 70Character actor James Gammon, an Orlando resident best known for his role as manager Lou Brown in the Major League films, passed away today at his home in Costa Mesa, California, aged 70. Gammon was a respected character actor who will always be remembered as the fiery but light-hearted mentor of the misfit Cleveland Indians in the 1989 film Major League, and its 1994 sequel, Major League II. Gammon was a graduate of Boone High School, c/o 1959, and got started in television as a cameraman at WDBO channel 6 (now WKMG), before embarking on an acting career. He had since pioneered a reunion group for the TV station. He suffered an aggressive recurrence of cancer last month. |
